Bynoe, Benschop wanted for treason

MR. PHILLIP Bynoe, leader of the group that stormed the Office of the President Wednesday, and Mr. Mark Benschop, who also reportedly played a leading role in an illegal march that took the protesters to the Presidential Complex, are wanted for treason and a series of offences, Police announced last night.

In wanted bulletins Police issued last night, Bynoe's address was given as 35 Silver Street, Wismar, Linden and Benchop's address was given as 90 Laluni Street, Queenstown, Georgetown.

Police are asking anyone knowing their whereabouts to get in touch with the nearest Police station or cal them on telephone numbers 226-6978, 225-8196, 226-9941, 226-1326 or 225-3650.

Bynoe applied for permission on July 02 to hold a march from three different areas in the country, but was denied permission based on previous statements he made to remove the Government, Police said.

Bynoe recently became the leader of a group called the People's Solidarity Movement, which held the illegal march Wednesday that erupted into violence in which several persons were robbed and beaten and two Regent Street stores burned down.

Police said two protesters were shot dead when a group invaded the Office of the President complex and began smashing furniture in the Accounts Department.

During a recent march by his group in Georgetown, Bynoe spoke of a plan to lay siege to the city and engaged his followers in chants to shut the country
